At the request of the Shoshone District BLM the Gem State Grotto (GSG) repaired the gate on the skylight entrance to a lava tube near Gooding, Idaho. The gate itself was still intact so it only took hoisting it into place and drilling some new holes for anchor pins and a bit of welding. Also at the request (and funding) of the BLM the GSG custom fit a trailer with a specialized sand blasting rig that will be used to clean graffiti from caves. It was delivered to them at this project. Oh yea, the first few images are our ever-present caving buddies - the Great Basin Rattlesnake.

A trip on February 9-10, 2008 to Iron Creek in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. We snow shoed in pulling sleds and spent the night in an igloo.

This trip to Succor Creek State Park in Oregon was organized by the Gem State Grotto on April 22-25, 2010. In addition to the Grotto sponsored camping and meal plan individuals offered other activities such as rappelling, caving, hiking, rock hounding, and the very popular Tyrolean that spanned the 200+ foot wide and 165+ foot tall canyon over and back. This is a trip I took to Skinny Dipper Hot Springs on October 2, 2009. It is a very well known and well used (abused) hot springs between Banks and Garden Valley, Idaho. I took the day off on a Friday to hopefully go up there and have a nice solo soak. The first hour I was alone and took these images. Then I started soaking and within a half hour several families showed up. Turns out it was in-service training for teachers and schools were out. So, I packed up and went down and shot some images of Staircase Rapids on the Payette River.

This trip was to a secret cave in eastern Oregon where we rafted an underground lake, and to southeastern Oregon and northern Nevada were we visited three hot springs - Alvord Desert, The Bog, and White Horse.

Every year the Idaho State Department of Parks and Recreation has a free trail day where they waive the normal fees for parking and trail use across the entire state. The Idaho Outdoors Group volunteers to lead snowshoe trips on this day. I led this trip for the novice group. It was on the East side of the Gold Fork Park-N-Ski lot heading up towards the Skyline Yurt.

These are images from the 2009 Idaho Parks and Recreation Free Trail day. It was an intermediate trip led by Owen Jones. It started at Beaver Creek Summit and ended up at the Banner Ridge Park-N-Ski.

This trip was to the Honeycombs on Lake Owyhee. One group boated about 20 miles from the dam, one group boated about 20 miles from the Leslie Gulch boat ramp, and one group hiked in about five miles from Painted Canyon. Once camp was set up we did day hikes into the interior of the Honeycombs. Many thanks to Owen Jones for organizing the trip and Owen and Dave May for providing the boat rides.

This trip was to a secret hot springs in the Idaho desert. While the pool filled water we took a hike up and around the cliffs behind the hot springs. This hike was partly on the Centennial Trail and part off trail. These images are not up to my usual standards as they were taken with a Canon A590IS point and shoot with no post editing.

This trip was to the Honeycombs on Lake Owyhee. Because the water level was too low to use the Leslie Gulch boat ramp, both boats came in from Owyhee Dam. Once camp was set up we did day hikes into the interior of the Honeycombs. Many thanks to Owen Jones for organizing the trip and Owen and Dave May for providing the boat rides.
